Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you can’t escape Christmas songs around this time of year. So why not just try to enjoy them? Here are a few of my personal favourite Christmas songs to get you feeling those festive vibes!

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU – MARIAH CAREY

No Christmas music list would be complete without this classic. It’s what I’m sure we all would describe as the ultimate Christmas song. You can maybe get away with not hearing the others on this list, but you can never escape Mariah Carey in December.

CHRISTMAS IN NEW YORK – LEA MICHELE

Anyone spent Christmas in New York before? Well then this song will give you some serious throwbacks. I was lucky enough to spend Christmas of 2016 in the Big Apple and this song embodied some of my own personal experiences of seeing the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular and the Christmas lights at the Rockefeller Centre. The tempo of the song really embraces the hustle and bustle of the city at this magical time of year. Even if you haven’t been, the song just feels like Christmas.

DRIVING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS – CHRIS REA

This song brings back memories of going home from university over the Christmas break. I would always listen to this song on the journey back. Okay… so maybe I didn’t drive home, I was on a train. But the message of the song still resonates. Shockingly this song flopped when it was released and only gained popularity as the years went by. At least we all appreciate it now!

CHRISTMAS TREE FARM – TAYLOR SWIFT

The warm opening and the upbeat bells in this song give you all the cosy Christmas vibes you need. The song was inspired by Taylor’s own childhood growing up on a Christmas tree farm. It’s an upbeat song that urges you to let go of the stress that comes with a commercialised Christmas and instead think about the magical parts of the holiday season.

MAN WITH THE BAG – JESSIE J

Originally released in the 1950s, this jazzy Christmas song is a reference to the “man with the bag” (aka Santa Claus) and the anticipation of waiting for his delivery of gifts. It’s a really fun song and I think Jessie J’s warm vocals were perfect for revitalising it.
