Christmas music makes me very happy during the colder months. As soon as November hits my finger is always twitching over the play button for my Christmas playlist. I’ve already mentioned some of my favourites, but I have so many it’s hard to narrow it down. For me there’s a lot of nostalgia linked to many Christmas songs which is why I think it brings me such joy. I hope you all enjoy these ones as much as I do.
IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS – PERRY COMO
This is one of my favourite classic Christmas songs. Decorations are one of the best things about the holiday season. If I were in a movie, this is the song that would be playing in the scene where we put up the Christmas tree and decorations around the house.
ONE MORE SLEEP – LEONA LEWIS
We love a countdown to Christmas! This song is honestly such a bop. I know not everyone likes to branch away from the Christmas songs we’ve grown up with in our childhood to listen to some of the newer ones. But Leona Lewis created something wonderful here. It’s a fun, upbeat song that I’m sure will be considered a classic in the future.
FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK – THE POGUES
I don’t think it’s bold to say that this is Britain’s favourite Christmas song. Is it really Christmas if you haven’t heard it on the radio? Celtic music has such a warm sound to it as well which makes it a perfect sound for a Christmas song. For understandable reasons, there is controversy around a couple of slurs used in the lyrics. If you’re conflicted about being able to enjoy the song whilst these words are there, I would suggest listening to the KT Tunstall version where she replaced them.
JINGLE BELLS – MICHAEL BUBLE FT THE PUPPINI SISTERS
This is hands down the best version of Jingle Bells you will ever hear.Have you ever heard harmonies so perfect? No other version of Jingle Bells will ever compare, that’s for sure. I think it’s safe to say Michael Buble is the King of Christmas. No one shall ever take that title from him.
THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR – IDINA MENZEL
Celebrating the festive season with happy songs really brightens up the dark winter days. The thing about the classic Christmas songs is that so many people have done amazing covers of them. I think Idina Menzel has a really great Christmas album in general and it’s one of my favourites. I like to put on in between all the Michael Buble.
What Christmas songs have you been listening to on repeat this year?
