Where to start… this past month I have been such a busy bee. As a side effect, my blog has been neglected. So I just wanted to post a little life update.
I originally had so many ideas for Christmas themed blog posts which just never materialised because my life became hectic out of nowhere. So we’ll see if I managed to even take part in the festive blog spirit this year or not. You can check out my Poster Store Christmas gift guide here though!
New Apartment
A couple of months ago me and my flatmates found an apartment just down the road that has more space for almost the same rent. We love the area of South London that we live in but we have outgrown the space.
For two and a half years, this place served us well. It was my first time renting as a graduate and was my happy place throughout the pandemic. We loved our little flat but it was time to move on (mostly because we couldn’t fit all the junk we had accumulated).
This weekend we made the big move over to the new place and we’re very excited to make more fun memories there. Not only that, but we now have a huge terrace which is going to be great for summer barbecues and, most importantly, our Eurovision party.
New Job
I’ve said this often on my blog, but last year I lost my job (thanks corona). Getting into full-time work has been an emotionally draining, seemingly never-ending, struggle. But I have finally done it! I’m thrilled to announce I’m going to be starting a new job with a theatre ticketing company next week. I could not be more excited!
Although the new government guidelines means that I will be starting this job from home (with no wifi thanks to just having moved house), I couldn’t be more grateful and relieved to not only have secured full-time work, but for a company that I have loved for so long.
However, I would definitely not recommend moving house and starting a new job all at once!
Visiting Home
Previously, I had been working front of house at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. I had accepted I probably wouldn’t get to go home over Christmas. Getting my new job means I can work from home now but the stress of it all just made me want to stay in London.
When I landed my new job I handed in my notice early to be able to go home for a week to see my friends and family. It was worth not having two weeks of pay for. I don’t know when I’ll next be going home so it was nice to just relax for a bit before I start on this new adventure.
Grateful
Despite all the stress, I feel a huge amount of gratitude for everything that has happened in the past month or so. I cannot explain to you the emotional impact going through a job loss. But on top of that, it’s insane the mental impact hundreds of job rejections will have on your confidence and outlook in life. But I’m going into this new year with a new flat, a new job and hopefully a new positive mentality.
So I just wanted to acknowledge all of this on my blog so, when I look back on it one day, I can see this as a turning point to what has been a hugely difficult eighteen months.
Getting a new apartment AND landing a new full-time job sounds like a sure way to be feeling a little of the upheaval of change but, once it all settles down and becomes your life again, it will be amazing! Your terrace sounds like a charming place to chill for summer parties too. 🙂
Yeah, it’s a lot all at once. But I’m sure it’ll all be exciting once it calms down a bit!
It is good to be busy. Have fun with your new job.
Thank you!
It sounds like you have been going through many new experiences (which can be super stressful, especially all at once). You seem to be handling it all well (I’m sure there have been moments where it didn’t feel like it) so I hope things continue to improve, settle and progress well for you! Cheering you on!
I’m glad I appear outwardly to be handling it well because honestly it has been super stressful and emotional haha! But thank you so much!
