Musical Theatre Characters As Taylor Swift ‘Midnights’ Lyrics

The only thing that has been on my mind since last Friday is every single song from Taylor Swift’s Midnights (3am Version). Taylor has created some of the most gorgeous, poetic, often relatable, lyrics ever written. And sometimes, she writes lyrics that could be said by characters in musicals.

So if ‘Midnights’ lyrics were in the script of a musical, these are the characters that would be saying them:

Lavender Haze

“All they keep asking me is if I’m gonna be your bride”

Juliet – & Juliet

Maroon

“And I wake with your memory over me, that’s a real fucking legacy to leave”

Liz – If/Then

Anti-Hero

“I have this dream my daughter-in-law kills me for the money”

Monty Navarro – A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder

You’re On Your Own, Kid

“From sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes I gave my blood, sweat and tears for this”

Vanessa – In The Heights

Midnight Rain

“He wanted comfortable, I wanted that pain. He wanted a bride, I was making my own name”

Sally Bowles – Cabaret

Vigilante Shit

“Picture me thick as thieves with your ex-wife”

All the Ex-Wives – Six

Labyrinth

“Breath in, breathe through, breathe deep, breathe out”

Jenna Hunterson – Waitress

Sweet Nothing

“You know how much I hate that everybody just expects me to bounce back”

Natalie Goodman – Next to Normal

Bigger Than The Whole Sky

“I’m never gonna meet what could’ve been, would’ve been, what should’ve been you”

Jen Tracy – John & Jen

Paris

“I’m so in love that I might stop breathing”

Medium Alison – Fun Home (specifically in the ‘Changing My Major’ scene)

Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve

“And now that I’m grown, I’m scared of ghosts, memories feel like weapons”

Mary Jane “M.J.” Healy – Jagged Little Pill
