A new chapter is here! Here’s how I’m making 2025 one to remember with a renewed mindset and some exciting plans. What’s on your list for the year ahead?
Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “It’s just another day. Nothing really changes between 31st December and 1st January.” And you’re absolutely right! But there’s something about the flip of the calendar into a new year that feels like an instant reset. Suddenly, it’s not just another day; it’s the start of something fresh, something exciting. It’s a whole new chapter just waiting to be written *cue the confetti and fireworks*
Let’s be real, the world isn’t going to change overnight, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make changes in my own life. The 1st January feels like the chance for a major mental shift as we head into the new year. So, while it may technically be “just another day,” it’s also a chance to press the refresh button on life. Out with the old, and in with the new!
Goals I’m setting my sights on this year
1. Morning Person
As a lifelong night owl, I’m on a mission to become a morning bird. I’m sick of starting my days feeling like a zombie! I’ve recently purchased Lumie alarm clock to make those dark mornings a bit less grim with some ambient sunrise lighting.
2. Getting Out of My Comfort Zone
It’s time to pop my little comfort bubble! I want to meet new people, try a hobby I’ve never done before, and explore some places I’ve never been – whether that’s around the corner in my local area or somewhere further afield.
3. Mindset Reset
Let’s be real: we’re all way too hard on ourselves. This year, I’m determined to be kinder to me. More positive self-talk, celebrating the small wins, and not spiralling over mistakes. Growth isn’t a straight line – there are ups and downs, and that’s totally fine!
4. Work to Live, Not Live to Work
Work has been living rent-free in my head for way too long, and that needs to stop. I’m all about finding a better balance, so I can actually enjoy the things that make me happy without sacrificing my work ethic.
5. Appreciating the People in My Life
I want to show up more for the people I love this year. Whether that’s coffee dates, video calls, or just making the time to hang out, I want to be more present.
6. Capturing the Moments
I treated myself to a new camera recently (treat yo’self, right?), and I’m so excited to get creative again. Photography, vlogging, capturing everyday moments or adventures – I’m ready to make memories I can look back on with a big smile on my little ol’ face.
7. Improving My Piano Skills
No more half-finished songs gathering dust in my brain! This is the year I’m going to work on my sight-reading and finally learn those pieces I’ve been avoiding. Baby grand vibes incoming.
8. Cooking from Scratch
There’s just something about making a meal from scratch that feels so good. I want to get into the habit of meal planning every Sunday so I’m not panic-grabbing freezer food midweek. Plus, healthier meals = happier me!
9. Let’s Get Baking!
Baking is such a comfort for me, but I haven’t done nearly enough of it lately. This year, I’m bringing it back – cakes, cookies, maybe even a loaf of bread (fingers crossed). Who knows, give me a couple of years and I might just apply for Bake-Off!
10. Seeing More Local Theatre
The North East has some incredible theatres, and I’m finally ready to make the most of them. It’s not just about the Sunderland Empire or Newcastle Theatre Royal – the smaller venues have so much charm too. I’ve missed the magic of live theatre, and it’s time to dive back in.
What’s your vibe for “new year, new me” this time around? Maybe it’s smashing a fitness goal, picking up a new skill, or just trying to be a bit kinder to yourself. Whatever it is, let’s go for it and make this year a good one!
See my post for the ‘Best Musical Theatre Songs for New Beginnings This New Year’ to get you feeling inspired.
Here’s to fresh starts, new chances, and seeing what amazing things might be just around the corner 🎉
All I can make from scratch are pancakes and waffles!
If I try a new hobby, I want to go back to one I used to do- in the past, I used to knit. That would be the one that I would want to try again.
