10 Journal Prompts Inspired By Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’

Happy ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’ day to you all!

As I’ve mentioned before, I started journaling over this past year. Sometimes I can just grab my notebook and pen and start writing down my thoughts. But other times I need prompts to help me get everything down on paper.

Having previously created some journal prompts inspired by lyrics from Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ and ‘Lover’ albums, I thought it would be very apt to create some inspired by lyrics from ‘Red’. These prompts are in no way related with the meaning of the song, but just ideas pulled from specific lyrics. I hope these journal prompts give you a little inspiration for your own journaling journey!

1. State of Grace

I’m walking fast through the traffic lights
Write about something you thought you’d never be able to do but you did it anyway.

2. Red

“Losing him was blue… missing him was grey… but loving him was red
Use colours to describe how you’re feeling right now.

3. I Knew You Were Trouble

Flew me to places I’ve never been
What is a place you have always wanted to visit and why?

4. All Too Well

Photo album on the counter, your cheeks were turning red
Reminisce on some of your favourite childhood memories.

5. I Almost Do

“It takes everything in me not to call you”
If you could talk to anyone right now, who would it be and why?

6. Stay, Stay, Stay

“My fears, my hopes, my dreams”
Reflect on these lyrics and write at least one thing for your fears, hopes and dreams.

7. Holy Ground

“We had this big wide city all too ourselves”
Talk about your favourite city/place and the memories you have from it.

8. The Lucky One

“And they’ll tell you now you’re the lucky one”
Write down five reasons why you are lucky.

9. Starlight

“Oh my, what a marvelous tune”
Name some of your favourite songs and albums of all time.

10. The Moment I Knew

A million little shining stars had just aligned
Write about a recent difficulty you overcame.

What’s your favourite song from Red? Let me know in the comments!

A solid disclaimer: Yes, in the photo I am streaming the original Red album… this photo was taken months ago so please ignore. The only version of Red you should be streaming from today is Taylor’s Version yay!

  1. These are such great suggestions! I love Taylor and I’m trying to get into journaling more, so this came at the perfect time. I really love the Red one about colours in particular – it’s so creative! Thanks for sharing x

    1. I really hope you’ve been able to get some inspirations from at least one of these prompts! I always think it’s fun to try and inspire journal prompts with songs you love 🙂

  2. I love this creative approach to journal prompts as I have never come across anything like this before! A line from each song in connection with a prompt appeals to me and makes the experience stronger. I love 1, 7, & 9 the most.

    Thanks for sharing!
