3 Ways To Stay Active During a Lockdown

It’s important to keep your mind happy and your body healthy! Although with the current restrictions this can be a struggle. Most days we’re staying inside. Many of us are barely getting any physical exercise at all and the closure of gyms hasn’t been helping. So below I have a put together a few ideas to help you stay active:

1. YOUTUBE WORKOUTS

This is my number one recommendation! You can find so many different workout videos on YouTube. It feels like having your own personal fitness instructor in the comfort of your own home. If you get really into it you might even choose to purchase some weights or resistance bands, which really enhance your at home workouts. Video calling a friend to do the workout together can really make it a fun time as well. You’ll be able to have a catch-up and stay active all in one (whilst crying together about how much it hurts). Feel free to check out some of my YouTube recommendations in my previous post.

* Whilst doing these workouts it is very important to be aware of your own limitations, especially if this is something you’re new to.

2. GO FOR A WALK

This seems like such a simple suggestion but it’s truly one of the best things you can be doing. Just go out for a wander and see where your legs take you! I’ve discovered so much of my local area that I’d never explored before. I’ve recently discovered an app called ‘Go Jauntley’, which is a community-based walking app that helps you discover new routes to explore. I have only tried one route so far but it was a fun way to mix it up from my usual walk. I also really enjoy listening to podcasts as it’s the only time I feel like I can really focus on them.

3. RUNNING

On the other end of the scale, you could maybe go out for a run! I’ve previously talked about my experience in doing Couch to 5K here. I would definitely recommend trying it if you are a new runner. Personally I have never been much of a runner, but following a controlled programme really helped me to slowly build up stamina. It’s always fun to make yourself some upbeat playlists on Spotify to run along to.

Going for a bike ride or pulling the old skipping ropes out from the garage could also be a fun way to keep fit.

How have you been staying active? Are there any workout videos on YouTube you have enjoyed?
