One of the greatest things about Christmas is indulging in all the delicious treats that come with the season. Food is one of my personal favourite joys in life and I tend to splurge a lot at Christmas. Here are some of my favourite food and drinks that I enjoy during Christmas time.

PIGS IN BLANKETS

I love sausages. I love bacon. So you can’t really go wrong with combining the two together! It’s a real shame that pigs in blankets aren’t something we eat all year round. They are my personal favourite addition to my Christmas dinner plate. For those who don’t eat pork, you can switch these out for ‘birds in blankets’ (i.e. chicken sausages wrapped in turkey bacon) which are just as tasty! The photo above actually features ‘birds in blankets’ as me and my flatmates had an early Christmas dinner together this weekend. Also, this may not be an ‘official’ name for them, but that’s what we have dubbed them.

CLEMENTINES

One of my favourite things about being home for Christmas is my parents always buy a crate of sweet and juicy clementines. Not only do they taste amazing, but they are the only healthy snack that has made this list. Historically, they have been a popular stocking filler. It’s not certain where the tradition came from, but some believe it started during the Great Depression era in America when families couldn’t afford much else. Most likely though its roots began even further back than this in Europe.

TERRY’S CHOCOLATE ORANGE

Going to move swiftly on from one orange to another orange. Whilst many people associate these with Christmas, I have to admit I can’t resist eating these all year round. They are one of my ultimate favourite chocolate treats. It’s always a good year when you find one of these beauties in your stocking! They’re a popular choice to put in stockings as a more naughty replacement for an actual orange.

MULLED WINE

The origins of Mulled Wine date back all the way back to the 2nd century BC with the Romans. As they expanded their empire across Europe, they took their love of mulled wine with them. The smell of mulled wine always reminds me of Christmas markets. Although I’m not much of a drinker. I remember going to Germany to see the Christmas markets a couple of years ago and they had a non-alcoholic version of mulled wine which was heavenly! It was called ‘Kinderpunsch’ which translates to children’s punch… but as an adult I had a great time drinking it.

TOFFIFEE

Maybe these aren’t necessarily a ‘Christmas thing’ to everyone, I’m not sure. For me though it’s tradition to have some of these delicious treats at Christmas. You can pick some up from Poundland or B&M, or in most supermarkets. If you have never had one before you’re missing out! They are small creamy hazelnut nougats topped with chocolate that melt in your mouth.

YULE LOG

Inspired by the traditional burning of a yule log, this sweet chocolate roulade is a heavenly treat at Christmas. I remember making one of these in school. Decorating it was my favourite part after eating it! I know a lot of people prefer Christmas pudding or Christmas cake, but personally a yule log is my favourite type of cake at Christmas time.

BAILEYS

I rarely drink alcohol, but over the past few years I’ve really enjoyed Baileys flavoured treats at Christmas. Yeah sure the drink, but also other Baileys flavoured items. Baileys cream goes nicely with your dessert. The Baileys filled chocolates are always super delicious and great to give away as gifts. Just give me an endless supply of Baileys treats and I’ll be happy.
