Shows I’m Looking Forward To Seeing in 2023

With another year comes more exciting theatre! I’m sure many of you already have your diaries lined up with exciting shows to go see. Here are some of the shows I am looking forward to seeing in London this year!

Allegiance

Following the true life story of George Takei’s childhood growing up in the US confined to a Japanese internment camp, it’s exciting to see him reprising his role, alongside Telly Leung, for the UK Premiere of Allegiance. This is going to be the first show I see in 2023 which is why I put it first, but the rest are in no particular order, I promise!

Charing Cross Theatre

Great British Bake-Off: The Musical

Oh man, I am so excited for this one! As a huge bake-off fan, I just know this show is going to radiate absolute joy. Although I’m really hoping they do an ode to bin gate. I can’t wait to step inside the musical bake-off tent later on this year.

Noel Coward Theatre

Groundhog Day

This is a show I have been dying to see for years, and it’s not without trying. I missed it in London the first time, but luckily I was in New York when it was running on Broadway. Oh wait… I planned it wrong and tried to rush the show on a no-show day like a clown. So this really feels like a third time lucky, and I hope one day I’ll get to relive this musical again and again.

Old Vic

Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons

The premise of this play sounds really intriguing, and my interest peaked with Aidan Turner and Jenna Coleman being announced in the cast. The show is a very unconventional story and imagines a world in which we’re forced to say less, exploring different ways of communication. Also, I love the colour yellow so they really dragged me in with their sunshine-esque marketing.

Harold Pinter Theatre

Guys & Dolls

I’ve seen Guys & Dolls before and I wouldn’t usually be that interested in going to see it again. However, The Bridge Theatre have described this as an immersive production and I’m very intrigued to see what exactly they mean by this. Not to mention Cedric Neal and Celinde Schoenmaker would be enough to sell it to me alone!

The Bridge Theatre

Next to Normal

The one we’ve all been waiting for is finally coming to London! Teenage me listened to this show religiously and I never thought I’d ever get the chance to see it live. We don’t yet have a casting announcement, but I am really hoping we here some more news very soon!

Donmar Warehouse

Operation Mincemeat

I’ve been drawn to this one for a while but have always unfortunately missed it. I’m so happy it’s coming to the West End next year to have another chance. This show has had such positive word-of-mouth reviews, and can boast about receiving many five star critical reviews also. It’s time to see what the buzz is all about!

Fortune Theatre

Noises Off

If I ever get over Come From Away closing, I’m hoping to be able to catch this comedy play during its limited run. Someone once told me it has the same vibes of The Play That Goes Wrong which I absolutely LOVE, so this one is definitely on my list to see.

Phoenix Theatre

Crazy For You

We love a Gershwin musical! I’ve never had the chance to see this one live, and honestly I’d watch anything with leading man Charlie Stemp. I think the Gillian Lynne is a versatile theatre too, so I’m interested to see the set design and staging they use.
