A Simple Slice of Gratitude

Hey there, hello! How are you doing today? Here in London, Spring is full swing. It’s a sunny day, the mornings are brighter and the daffodils are no longer a rare sight. It seemed like the perfect day to share a more personal post.

The past twelve months have been a difficult time for me. I know it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for anyone else either. Most of the time I sit here feeling weighed down by all my worries. This is why it feels more important than ever to make a habit of reminding myself that I still have so much to be grateful for. It helps push away negative thoughts to make room for more positive ones. It’s almost a form of self-encouragement to think about the good things in your life right now.

THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR

  • Technology and the way it’s been able to connect me with people throughout this year through video calls, text messages and streaming watch parties.
  • The weather has taken a gorgeous turn recently and I’m really enjoying those rays of sun!
  • My friends’ pets and the abundance of photos they share in our group chat. There’s nothing like a fluffy face to get you through the day.
  • Theatres are hopefully going to reopen within the next few months!
  • If lockdown has shown me anything, it’s that my flatmates are easygoing people to live with.
  • Being home most of the time has allowed me to focus on eating healthier.
  • My friend Jenny recently created a book club and I’m very excited for our first meeting. It’s pushed me out of my reading slump and has made me feel involved in something.
  • The support I have received from many people with my difficult job search.
  • On the same topic, I appreciate it when companies keep me informed about the recruitment process – whether it be positive or negative.

  • My new coffee machine that gives me fancy coffee. Thanks to my parents for gifting this to me a couple of months ago.
  • Whilst I love my new gadget above, there’s nothing like the comfort of a cup of tea to help me relax.
  • This is a strange one, but I really appreciate ‘Among Us’. This crazy game has given me and my friends evenings of fun and laughter.
  • Living in London often feels like a dream. Whilst I miss home often, this opportunity has been a crazy ride.
  • My blog that I created on a whim last year after losing my job. It’s been one of the only things to provide my mind some sort of stability this past year. The blogging community is such a welcoming bunch and I’m enjoying connecting with new people.

Other things I am forever grateful for that I feel like I don’t need to constantly repeat is my friends and family. I know I have a great support network around me. They constantly hype me up, give me advice and, most importantly, remind me that I am loved. It goes without saying that as well that I’m always going to be thankful for my good health, my education, my upbringing and the advantages that I have been given in life. I may not always feel like it, but I know that at the end of the day I am an incredibly lucky person. I have a roof over my head, food on the table, and people who love me.

There are things we will always be able to appreciate, but often new and unexpected things will come along. My list is definitely different from what it would have been a year ago. The absence of having a stable job has really given me a new perspective on being able to enjoy things I would have taken for granted last year.

What are things you are grateful for today? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I love this list! The book club sounds amazing – I really want to join one, hopefully soon 🙂 Among Us seems like such a lockdown thing aha but it was so much fun. Really enjoyed reading this xx

    1. Yes, the book club was such a great idea from my friend! I’ve been really struggling to find the motivation to read lately so this was the push I needed 🙂
